The Band "Hudi a Mocni" (Skinny but Bold) came to existance in January 1999 in the city of Toronto. It all started one winter night when guitarist Vlatko and vocal Tino re-recorded the song "Так як Какао", originally composed by the famous Yugoslavian band "Leb i Sol". Vlatko prepared and recorded a revised musical arrangement for the song, while Tino wrote Ukrainian lyrics and recorded the vocals. The successful completion of this mini-project motivated them to work on other songs from the former Yugoslavia. Marrying their Ukrainian language heritage with the Yugoslavian music of their youth, a unique and personal album came to be.

The original Hudi a Mocni band was formed upon completion of the first album. The band's mandate was to present a new breed of music to the Ukrainian community in the Greater Toronto Area.

In today's Hudi a Mocni band line-up, Vlatko and Tino are the only two remaining original members of the band. Other talented musicians that have played or sang with Hudi a Mocni over the years include: Beata Wujcik, Elana Sulatytska, Petro Polanski, Dario Mihaljisin, Igor Hemon and Rostyk Hurski.

Hudi a Mocni have participated in a number of musical events both in Canada and United States over the past few years. They played at the Bloor West Village Festival, Uke-Stock, Pre-Malanka, and several other events organized by Ukrainian students and other Ukrainian organizations in Canada.

Through the years, Hudi a Mocni have maintained their mandate of contributing to the Ukrainian musical and cultural scene in Toronto. The band seeks not only to preserve but also to renew the Ukrainian tradition amongst the Ukrainian youth through a more modern style of their music. Although Ukrainian traditional music is a standard component of their repertoire, Hudi a Mocni define themselves as a modern Ukrainian pop/rock band.
